Board launches new tourism campaign

The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has started branding the country's tourism industry to make it more competitive.The TTB managing director, Dr Alloyce Nzuki, said recently that plans were also underway to woo visitors to new tourist attractions other than wildlife sites.

He said the new branding is intended to enable foreign visitors to capture the new slogans that sell the country as Africa's prime destination.

"The new brands will be the ones that could best portray Tanzanian hospitality," he said when addressing stakeholders of a Cultural Tourism Programme (CTP) managed by the board.

Dr Nzuki said TTB started to develop the new tourism branding last year with the intention of differentiating the destination from close competitors.

"We are developing a brand that is all inclusive," he said, adding that the exercise will go concurrently with increased marketing abroad.

However, the TTB boss reiterated that Tanzania would continue to be a wildlife-based destination for foreign visitors because it was much endowed compared to many countries.

Tourism, he said, continues to be a crucial sector for the country's economy as it is currently, the leading foreign exchange earner.
