Butchers in a bind as faith row over right to slaughter rages

Butchery owners in Mwanza have been thrown into confusion following a massive drop in meat sales blamed on a religious conflict that has rocked Mwanza and Geita regions.

Butchery operators and attendants said sales had plunged by about 70 per cent, adding that the situation was “dangerous”.

They told The Citizen on Sunday that low sales started a few days after the Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for social relations, planning coordination, Mr Stephen Wassira, met Christian and Muslim leaders.
