Who Needs Government Subsidy?

EDITORIAL

A local legislator on Tuesday called upon the Government to subsidise about 300,000 local fishermen.

Sumve CCM Richard Ndassa argued during a fisheries stakeholders' meeting in Mwanza that subsidised fishermen would be able to acquire efficient working tools.

But the Government later turned the heat to fish processors.

Industry and Trade minister Mary Nagu blamed rampant smuggling on low prices.

Dr Nagu noted that Nile perch was finding a ready market in Kenya and Uganda where higher prices were offered.
