Finally, a practical solution to Lake Victoria pollution

An ambitious project jointly funded by Germany, the European Union and the Government of Tanzania at a cost of 25bn/- is expected to reduce 50 per cent Mwanza City’s total pollution contribution to Lake Victoria, cut down environmental degradation of the Lake, protect the quality of drinking water in the fast growing metropolitan and promote sustainable economic development, a Special Correspondent writes. The project was launched during Maji Week celebrations in Mwanza.

"The lack of access to drinking water and sanitation is one of the main challenges of our time. Water is key to any social and economic development."

This is what the Deputy Head of Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hans Koeppel (photo) recently stated during a ceremony to inaugurate the Mwanza Sanitation Project that was held at Ilemela District in the city during the opening of the national Maji Week celebrations.
