THE Confederation Cup first leg tie between Young Africans and Sudan’s El-Merreikh will be held at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza on May 6.
Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Information Officer Florian Kaijage said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the officials of the match would come from Malawi. He named the referee as Patrick Kapanga who would be assisted by Moffat Champiti and Paul Mhango.
He said the fourth official was Hamisi Chang’walu from Tanzania, while the commissar was named as Kisseka Mahamud Rajab from Uganda.

Faulty pontoons irk Sengerema councillors

COUNCILLORS in Sengerema District, Mwanza Region, have asked the government to suspend operations of faulty pontoons on Lake Victoria to prevent accidents as was the case with 'mv Bukoba' some 11 years ago.

THE Fiji soccer side has been invited to participate in the inaugural Commonwealth Nations Challenge Cup (CNCC) which will kick off in Tanzania, Eastern Africa, in late June.
The tournament was originally supposed to be held in Uganda, however, it was shifted because most of the hotel rooms have been pre booked for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which will be held there.
National coach Juan Carlos Buzzetti said the Fiji team would need to tour outside of the region in a bid to prepare for the South Pacific Games in Samoa.

Young Africans of Tanzania are scheduled to play El Merreikh of the Sudan in this year's African Confederation Cup soccer tournament.
The Young Africans, just ousted from the African Champions League after losing to Esperance of Tunisia 3-0 on aggregate, were relegated to the Confederation Cup.
The Tanzanian eleven will play their Sudanese counterparts in their opening leg on May 5 in Mwanza, with the return leg slated for two weeks later in Khartoum.

THE National boxing squad leaves for Mwanza this morning to set up a training camp in ready for the forthcoming Africa Boxing championship scheduled for Madagascar from May 15 to 22.

At least 59 out of 61 expectant mothers, who suffered from obstetric fistula in Mwanza, Ruvuma and Singida regions, lost their babies immediately after delivery.
The report titled: Risk and Resilience: Obstetric Fistula in Tanzania indicates that pregnant girls and women faced some kind of difficulties in delivery, with labour being the main cause of contracting fistula.

Killer of owner of egg-eating dog nabbed

POLICE have apprehended a resident of Matale village in Magu district, Robert Kabuni, for allegedly stabbing to death his neighbour, Monica Kanyoga (50) early this week.
Eggs were said to be the only source of the conflict that led to the gruesome murder. Mr Kabuni's eggs were eaten by Ms Kanyonga's dog, which infuriated him into taking law into his own hands.

POLICE here are investigating the death of a 52-year old widow, Sophia Njiginja, who was allegedly hacked to death by her relatives at Buhongwa area. According to Mwanza Regional Police Commander, Mr Zelothe Stephen, the widow might have been killed over a land dispute.
