The plan by the Tanzanian government to construct a major highway through the Serengeti has elicited sharp reactions from varied quarters.
Critics are calling for a resolve of the “Serengeti row” without examining at length the reasons why the Tanzania government has taken that road.
Environmentalists have argued that the construction of a tarmac road would dent tourism earnings, destabilise the natural ecosystem of the Serengeti and Maasai Mara National Parks and most importantly, interfere with the wildebeest migration which has gained international recognition as the seventh new wonder of the world.
