Mwanza fishery stakeholders given ultimatum

LAKE Victoria fisheries stakeholders have been given a one-year ultimatum to devise and implement an action plan against various vices that deny the government fair income.

The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Professor Jumanne Maghembe, enumerated challenges facing the lake as a tremendous increase in illegal fishing, use of illegal fishing gears, smuggling of resources, dwindling of the resources particularly Nile perch, over-fishing and piracy.
