Patrol boats for Lake Victoria

PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete announced here yesterday that the government will buy several patrol boats for the police force in Mwanza Region in a move aimed at curbing rampant crime on Lake Victoria.

The president told hundreds of residents at Nansio town and Mibungo village in Ilangala ward here that the government was concerned by increased crime on the lake, saying the trend frustrated development in the area.

Mr Kikwete, who was on a one-day tour of the district to inspect development activities observed that since children formed the vast majority of the island's estimated 300,000 inhabitants, it was imperative that they be given good upbringing, including quality education and health care. He also underscored the importance of family planning.
